That's so true. I suffer from food addiction myself, and even though I reduced my weight down to 150 lbs from 220 pounds, food was always still in the back of my mind. It is definitely mentally equal to any other addiction.

i think she was massive because she said she lost 50 lbs. and wants to lose another 45 lbs. so thats nearly 100 lbs. overweight which might have been a health issue for her. you sure couldnt tell it from her singing though,it is and always has been AWESOME!

Ann Wilson isn't a fashion model. What she does best is sing, and no amount of superlatives will do that voice justice. She's 59 this year, and she still belts out songs they put out 30 years ago with the same energy and range. Think about who's popular now and in their prime, and ask yourself whether they'll be able to deliver with the same intensity in 20-30 years..

People...looks are but a fleeting thing. But great music lives on forever. Very few men or women can match the range or strength of Ann's voice. She kicks ass! I mean that in the present tense too. I rencently saw them in Denver and they still can "Kick it out!" Ann and Nancy are two of the greatest musicians/artists of all time....male or female. I don't think they have gotten the credit they deserve for paving the way for women rockers. Thanks for being my inspiration ladies!

It so sad that people made Ann feel ashamed about how much she weighed. She has done nothing wrong. She was under the pressure of the critics, who obiously had no idea what they were talking about because she is an outstanding singer. Who cares about weight, she is so beautiful anyway! But I'm glad that she decided to take control of the problem!

I don't know if I'd agree with --completely-- avoidable, but it is avoidable in many instances. Some people DO have genetic predispositions and environmental factors that drive them toward obesity. I was somewhere in the middle on that. This is why I call it a disease, such as alcoholism or drug addiction.

As you know, I was married years ago and my husband was a big guy. He was 6'4" and he weighed about 360. We went to Santa Cruz to the Boardwalk and after waiting forever to get on the roller coaster, he had the exact same thing happen as you - he couldn't fit. The guys tried everything to get the bar down. After trying he finally had to get up and leave the ride while I sat in the car totally ashamed. Looking back on it now, I wish I had been supportive and got out of the ride with him...

I always forget what I wanted to say once I am staring at the camera. lol Also... the whole rollercoaster thing... yeah been there. Very similar story. Although I learned that they put a set of larger seatbelts for fat asses in the BACK of the rollercoaster so I ended up being able to ride after I did the walk of shame to the back. I will remember that for next time.

Hmm. Did I say that? No doctor put me on a fast. I joined a weight loss liquid diet program sponsored by my insurance. It is called the Metabolic Nutrition Program. It is for as long as it takes to get to a goal weight. This was not a fast per sae but rather 750 calories a day of almost 100% protein (in liquid form)

With all due respect, I think you might want to do some actual research on the surgery itself and the hundreds of thousands of people who have been successful at becoming more healthy BECAUSE of the surgery, and because in order for it to be a success, you MUST EXERCISE and MUST EAT HEALTHIER. If you have statistics that show that gastric bypass patients have a shorter life span, then please do share it. I take it you're a thin person, otherwise you wouldn't say we aren't called fatty.

don't do surgery!! It's the .. bad way out? VERY DANGEROUS, NOT HEALTHY. Try excercising, it really will help, you will look better in the long run and live longer. Guys, being skinny in some ways is worse than being fat, people who are skinny and want to be normal sized, get YOUR SO SKINNY , or TWIG, all the time. No one says FATTY to fat person, well some do, but skinny people will have it worse a lot of the times.

Glad to see ur doing work, but let me tell you now do not go for the mini... trust me talk to a local doc about that! *wink* Also, with a lap band u have got to rememeber you have to go back in around once or twice a year to get the lapband re tightened... keep that in mind too! My gastric surg is June 11th wish me luck.

The surgery only allows you to not over indulge. It definitely helps to eat smaller quantities, but it doesn't take away the love for food or cravings.

...People don't decide to have surgery without much thought and they don't take it lightly. It comes as a last resort. After surgery you see real results and that feels great so you don't want people criticizing what gave you a sense of freedom. I can't help but wonder if there isn't a little bit of hidden grief that comes along with it. A sense of loss, sadness, and regret. We grieve our lack of self control. Or our loss of control. This might come from some unresolved issues of the heart.

Nice clarifications. You are a blessing to us all. I notice that a lot of people who have had WLS seem to be extra sensitive to any perceived negative discussion of it. I think that is because there is so much emotion attached to it. Literally years of negative emotions that go along with living obese. The decision to have WLS involves many mixed feelings of success and failure....

i think its the hardway .... you have to have surgery, diet, exercise and totally chage your mindset of food- loosing weight is hard but i think anyone that could - would just diet or exercise but when you try those hiings and see no results or worse even gain weight still you turn to other options its only normal to do process of elimination and end up doing something that will work rather than something you know hasnt

ps - I thought the no eating and drinking together would be the easiest thing for me and it turns out it has been pretty difficult. I just feel so thirsty and feel like i need the liquid to wash it down. Well I don't drink but I found I take a little spoonful of no sugar added applesauce after my meal to wash it down and refresh my palate. It has really helped me. :) Shannon

I personally would never have that kind of surgery. But it's different for everybody. Is it better to be obese, or have surgery and lose weight? I don't know to be honest. Just because you've lost weight doesn't mean you're healthy... it's about the way you do it and your nutrition. I don't think it'd be possible to get adequate nutrition after having gastric bypass, they just can't eat enough calories..

Also I wanna say that surgery is not a quick fix it is very hard process having to limit your calories and all the side effects of the surgery. It's not easy for anyone to lose weight. This isn't directed to you Adam but this is just to anyone.

I say do what you gotta do to lose the weight once its off then you can try to get healthy. I had to do extreme ways to lose weight but now that I've lost it I am so healthy and I exercise and diet. I am much better off now then trying to 1000x I've tried to "diet and exercise" to lose weight and fail. I wouldn't get surgery personally but do what you gotta do to lose weight.

great video! My last diet was a medically supervised PSMF, similar to the starvation diet you did. It was my last ditch effort at losing weight and I also lost a load of weight during it. Slowly gained most of it back over 2 years. I believe in the fast, as ur not hungry during it, but in the end couldn't sustain. Thanks for understanding we WLSers are coming from.

For the first 18 months after gastric bypass surgery, patients must restrict themselves to consuming less than 800 calories per day. WLS doesnt make losing weight or maintaining any easier. Its just more expensive. I don't think it's bad but I dont understand why people waste all that money just to force themselves to starve. You're living proof that drastic measures don't require massive credit card debt.
